Do You Really Want to Change Your Life?
Here is some bee happi coaching rhetoric for you. Imagine that there is something that you want to change, but you haven’t done anything about it. Now maybe in your heart, you are longing for this change. Yet something always gets in the way like: fear, lack of confidence, or any other limiting belief. Next, look deep into the future and think about what life will be like if you continue to do nothing to change your current situation.
If you looked in the future and you are okay with nothing changing, then that’s fine. This could mean a lot of things, but mostly it means that you are probably not motivated to change for some reason. However, if you looked into the future and were horrified that you didn’t make the change, then it’s time to get moving and start changing.
Here is the thing, change only happens when you are really passionate about what you are changing. Back when I was working my 9-5 job, I had this one colleague that always complained about how much she hated her job. She wanted to quit and start her own business but wasn’t willing to make the jump or the sacrifice.
One day I asked her “What will happen to you if in 5 years you don’t change your current situation?” She said, “Oh I guess I’ll be fine.” Needless to say, she is still in a job she hates and complaining about it. For her, the fear of change was more horrifying then quitting her job, which she was familiar, comfortable, and safe with.
The moral of the story is some will continue to complain and do nothing to change their situation if their fear of change is stronger than their “fire to change”. Those that are fired up will eventually find their path to change and success.
Here is a meditation exercise for you:
- Sit or lie in a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted for 5-10 minutes.
- Close your eyes.
- Inhale fully and exhale completely several times.
- If any thoughts arise, just notice them without judgment. Pretend like they are just clouds floating by.
- Imagine that you have successfully made the change you wanted.
- Notice what you are seeing, feeling, and hearing.
- When you are at the height of this experience (meaning you feel like this is real and happening now), anchor this feeling by putting any two fingers together (remember this anchor).
- Sit in this moment for several minutes.
- After a few minutes, open your eyes refreshed and ready for a change.
- Journal about your experience by answering the following questions:
What did you notice during this meditation practice?
What did you see, feel, and hear?
What did you learn from this experience?
When will you use this anchor in the future?
This exercise will help you to envision the path to success. With this experience anchored, you can put your fingers together anytime and relive this wonderful feeling of success.
Final Thoughts: Change is change. It is what it is. Sometimes, it is just hard. I will say that the struggle does make you stronger, smarter, and hopefully happy. Like everything I teach about, this practice requires discipline, consistency, and patience. In closing, I’d like to leave you with some pearls of wisdom from this awesome book that I am reading right now called The Eight Human Talents: Restore the Balance and Serenity within You with Kundalini Yoga by Guru Mukh:
Although it cannot be denied, sometimes there is a loss of change, clinging to something familiar that is not healthy for you will never bring happiness.
