A mindful meditation practice starts with the breath. During the practice, the person focuses on their breathing. As distracting thoughts and feelings occur, they are not ignored but are rather acknowledged and observed nonjudgmentally. This technique helps create a detachment from distracting thoughts and feelings, thus giving the person kindness and self-awareness. Mindful meditation also helps to reduce stress and anxiety and encourages positive thought patterns and balanced mental state.
Journaling is a therapeutic process of self-discovery through writing. As you write down your experiences, thoughts, and feelings, you will begin to learn more about yourself. Your journal will be a friend that you can call on at anytime! So whenever you have something that you need to “get off your chest”, write it down!
