When Is It Time to Look at the Brighter Side of Life
Last week, I was on Facebook looking through my newsfeed when I saw a beautiful picture of my niece! I commented on her picture and said “Hey, may I use this photo in one of my blogs.” She said “yes” and texted me the photo. I asked her, “What were you thinking when you took this photo?” She said:
I thought wow that pretty powerful thought for a selfie. Then she explained that one of her friends recently passed away and that “instead of being sad all day about it, she decided to put some makeup on and embrace the day in honor of her friend.” With so many things to be sad about in life, it’s easy to forget that this too shall pass and things will get eventually better (if we allow it to). This brave mother of four and military wife has seen her share of pain and suffering. Nonetheless, she always manages to see the brighter and optimistic side of life, even when things happen in life that makes us sad. I like Denise’s ability to know that “life goes on.”
It reminded me of some words from Eckhart Tolle’s book: A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose that said:
“The past has no power to stop you from being present now. Only your grievance about the past can do that. And what is a grievance? The baggage of old thought and emotion.”
Final thoughts: Even the happiest of us get sad, mad, or any array of emotions. The key is to come back to the present moment and just be happy (bee happi).
