Today, I challenge you to do one thing out of your comfort zone. For instance, if you have been wanting to lose weight, go out and walk or run for 15 minutes today. Or if you have been wanting to change jobs, send out a few resumes to other positions that interest you.
Getting out of your comfort zone is like going to the gym and strengthening your muscles. It will help you build tolerance, confidence, and stamina. With practice, you get better and stronger.
Here are 3 tips to help you get out of your comfort zone.
- Start small. You can start very small, just a few minutes per day. This is just enough to help you get the courage to do more in the future. Practice makes perfect, the more you are comfortable with the uncomfortable, the more you can accomplish.
- Get encouragement from friends and family. Having a support system is so important. They can help you get out of your comfort zone by cheering you on and reminding you that you can do it.
- Reward yourself. It takes guts to get out of your comfort zone, reward yourself with praise and gratitude.
Final Thoughts
In closing, I’d like to leave you with some thoughts from M. Scott Peck, author of “The Road Less Traveled”:
“Once we truly know that life is difficult — once we truly understand and accept it — then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.”
