A Yogi’s Decade of Meditation Discovery
Hello, beautiful beings! I’ve been tucked away in my cozy corner, sipping on chai tea, reminiscing about my decade-long journey as a meditating yogi. It’s been quite a meditation ride, full of insights, hiccups, and everything in between. And let me tell you, I’ve stumbled across quite a few misconceptions along the way.
Today, I want to debunk some of the most common myths about meditation. Ready to dive in? Grab your favorite comfy pillow, and let’s unravel these mysteries together as we discuss “6 Myths Busted: The Truth About Meditation.”
Meditation: The Mind’s Mount Everest
Hands up if you’ve ever thought that meditation was harder than solving a Rubik’s cube blindfolded! The truth is, meditation is as straightforward as brewing a cup of tea – just don’t forget to switch off the kettle.
The seeming challenge of meditation is due to its deceptive simplicity. You don’t have to do anything grand or adventurous. You’re not required to slay dragons or swing on vines from mountain to mountain. It’s just you, your breath, and your comfy spot. Sure, the mind may wander, but that’s all part of the journey.
Operation Mind-Silence: Mission Impossible?
“Help! I can’t quiet my mind!” I often hear this plea, and I can’t help but smile with a good-hearted giggle. My dear friends, this is a part of the process. Picture your mind’s thoughts as a waterfall cascading down. You’re just a humble pebble nestled among the rocks, watching the water without getting swept away, chillaxing, unbothered by the torrent around you.
Just as the wise Jon Kabat-Zinn suggests, we merely observe our thoughts from a safe distance without attempting to suppress or mute them as the thought-police.
Meditation: A Mat-Only Activity?
Oh, if only life were that simple! While I enjoy a good sit on my mat, there’s a whole world of meditation beyond it. The options are as vast as your imagination, from walking meditation to meditative journaling, swimming, or even a quiet jog.
The ultimate goal isn’t the ‘how’ but the ‘do.’ Discover your method, be consistent, and remember, it’s your journey to tailor as you wish.
Meditation: The Instant Zen Maker
Honestly, I wish this myth was true. The idea that meditation transforms us into ever-peaceful, never-ruffled Zen masters is… well, a tad off-target. Even after a decade of meditation, I still have moments when I could wrestle with a grizzly (metaphorically, of course).
Meditation doesn’t cast our emotions into a black hole. Instead, it heightens our awareness, tuning us into our emotional radio station. It guides us to accept, acknowledge, and let go, not to morph into emotionless androids.
Meditation: The Elite Club Membership
Here’s the universal truth: you don’t need an exclusive gym card or a swanky yoga studio membership to meditate. Meditation is as free as the space between stars, as accessible as your next breath. You can meditate anywhere – on a park bench, at your desk, or even while waiting in line for ice cream (just keep an eye out for your turn!).
Meditation: Is it a Religion?
Last, but certainly not least, the myth that meditation is a religion. While many religions incorporate meditation in their practices, meditation itself doesn’t wear a religious robe. It’s an open party – everyone’s invited, no faith-specific dress code required!
Some Parting Thoughts
That’s a wrap, folks! Six meditation myths, lovingly busted. Remember, your meditation journey is as unique as you are. It’s not about conquering an Everest-like task, achieving an unnaturally serene state, or enrolling in a fancy studio. Nor is it solely about sitting still on a mat or being part of a specific religion.
Meditation is about you, my friends. It’s about being present in your life, observing your thoughts like a pebble, and watching the water cascade over it. It’s about finding your unique practice, whether that’s during a quiet walk in the park, while swimming, or yes, even on a traditional mat.
As we journey together on this meditative path, let’s remember to celebrate our individual experiences, cherish our unique practices, and embrace the incredible rollercoaster that life can be.
After all, meditation isn’t about avoiding the waves but learning how to surf! Till next time, stay quirky, stay curious, and keep on meditating, my friends!

Hey there, I'm Maribel Garcia Valls, and I'm all about vintage curation, room design, and graphic design. I've been obsessed with design ever since I was a kid, and I would always rearrange and style different spaces in my house. Thrift stores and garage sales are my jam, and I love discovering unique and eclectic pieces to add to my collection. When it comes to design, I'm all about pops of color and creating quirky and fun digital designs. I'm also a yoga and meditation teacher, and I use these tools as a way to express my creativity, along with journaling. While I have a Masters in Public Health and a Master's Certificate in Executive Coaching, my heart is always drawn to the more creative arts. For me, design is not just a hobby, it's a way of life. I believe that good design should be accessible to everyone, and I'm always on the lookout for inspiration in the world around me. Vintage curation, room design, writing, graphic design, and drawing are just a few of my passions, and I'm constantly exploring and expanding my skills with each new project.
